We’ve gone over The Fool here on the blog before, how it’s all about new beginnings and taking a leap of faith. I think the next best step is to continue along The Fool’s journey in the Major Arcana: The Magician is a common archetype that I believe we can all easily identify. The young, excited student goes searching for knowledge and finds a teacher. Yes, in our first stop in the quest for knowledge is to find a teacher. The Magician seems like the perfect match. Or rather, The Magician is what we aspire to be. On our journey of The Fool, we first have to discover what we most want to be. That’s why the Major Arcana first comes across the ideal images of what someone wants to be: a mother, a father, a lover, a teacher, etc. The Magician is the first stop for admiration. I mean, can you see why? This guy is obviously experienced. He’s seen it all! I want to be like him! The issue is, yes we can see what hard work and dedication can get us through The Magician, but we forgot the most important part: hard work. It takes time to become the Magician we want to be. It takes practice, discipline, and dedication. When times are tough, we have to keep trucking through, because this is the end goal. Another result of experience is knowing when to act. You’ve been through this situation before, you know how it goes. So you know the perfect timing and understand why it’s happening. This can also mean that you may not be as experienced as you want to be, but you know the time is right to do something. You’re trusting yourself in knowing that starting this course is the best thing to do. The main thing to remember about The Magician is, because it represents our goals and putting things into action, that you may not be visiting him for very long. As things are put into action, you move on to the next thing you want to do. Maybe you realize that you haven't learned all you want to. So take your time, with this card, to figure out what more you need to learn about your situation. What more you need to do to reach happiness. Through his studies from the wise master, the pupil learns that they don’t hold all the knowledge they seek, so off goes the young student to find more!
